Some call it an "aha" moment, others a "eureka" moment, you may just call it an "idea".
No matter what you call them, we want to hear them!
Seen something being done somewhere else in the Province that you think should be adopted by the SCRD? Got an idea on how to improve a current service?
Add it to the ideas board and they will be shared with SCRD staff.

Aron Reidabout 3 years agoStop the Trial
How can the SCRD endorse a plan that limits the capability of its residents to travel? Make the trial 20% reservation availability 1 month in advance of sailing... then 30% availability should be made available one week in advance and the final 20% 24 hours in advance. The ferry system is favouring the demands of planned travel... in an effort to maximize throughput and profit they are attempting to change the behaviours of the residents of the Sunshine Coast. But this trial goes well beyond behaviour modification... it will severely restrict access levels and will further restrict the movement of locals... al in an effort to favour profit. I would like to see a plan developed by residents... unfettered by the wants on the Ferry Corp. Which by the way is exactly what the SCRD should be proposing.

Consider the actual environmental benefits of moving waste off-Coast. Waste management companies are set up both environmentally and economically to process the variety of waste they receive. It is disposed of in a facility that makes the best use of the waste and they have access to markets for anything that can be reclaimed. Rather than just burying our waste in another landfill and creating more contaminated space, we can be part of the growing waste management market and contribute to the viability of these companies that take on one of the messiest of industries. Think of it as putting waste where it belongs, where it will be best reused.

bi-weekly garbage collection will create problems for large families that already fill one container/week. In summer bi-weekly garbage collection will smell twice as much and be an added attraction for bears.

Glad to find this forum where ideas can be shared & discussed in a respectful way. I am not against the proposed BC Ferries Route 3 trial, but I do have some concerns about some of it's features. I've listed out what I think is worth keeping & what should be changed. I'd like to engage in respectful, meaningful discussion here. I do not think taking a position that 'nothing but a 2nd boat will do' is the answer. A 2nd ferry could be up to 5 years away & keeping the status quo for the next 5 years doesn't improve anything. I am also against resident priority boarding. I think the most equitable solution is one with one set of rules for everyone. With that said, please let me know what you think of these ideas. Thanks! Here's what I think is good & what could be improved: Good: 1. Ability to book in advance & save money 2. Having reduced fares for less busy sailings will incent those with the flexibility to travel at less popular times, saving them money, and also taking some of the demand away from the more popular sailings. Good for all. This does mean that fares for non booked ahead vehicles would have to be collected at Langdale and a traffic management plan would be needed. Change: 1. Lower the book ahead from proposed 95% to allow for more first-come-first-served. 2. Increase the medical assured from proposed 5%. 3. Ensure booked ahead spots are not transferrable, but can be changed/cancelled. 4. Introduce a sliding scale change/cancellation fee structure. i.e. Fee to change/cancel goes up the closer you get to the sailing. 5. Release spots a month ahead so that commuters don't have to pay for their spots months in advance.
