"Through the Climate and Environment Lens, we will reduce the carbon impact of all our services and activities, and take action to protect, adapt and restore the environment that sustains us, especially watersheds and aquifers. We will also build our capacity to respond to and recover from emergencies." (2023-2027 SCRD Strategic Plan).

Recent heatwaves, droughts, wildfires, and atmospheric rivers have shown the need for local action on the Sunshine Coast. We also know the window to drastically reduce carbon pollution and avoid unstoppable global warming is rapidly closing. The SCRD has engaged the community in developing a Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP). A CCAP lays out a strategy and provides policy recommendations to address climate change.

The SCRD is also leading by example with its Corporate Carbon Neutrality Plan, adopting a target or reducing carbon pollution 45% by 2030.

Progress is reported in the annual Local Government Climate Action Program reporting.
