McKenna Gang asked 6 months agoHi there, residential properties currently pay a flat rate for water user fees. The SCRD initiated a water rate structure review in early 2023. The SCRD Board has since directed staff to develop an implementation plan for volumetric billing, beginning with North and South Pender Harbour. Read more about it here.(External link) Changes to the rates structure or service charges must be approved by the SCRD Board.

Adrian Hartmann asked 7 months agoHi Adrian - the water meter installation project has started in the Sechelt area. When you will have your meter installed is largely dependent on where you live. Further information on the project can be found here: https://www.scrd.ca/news/next-stage-of-water-meter-installation-program-to-begin/

Adrian Hartmann asked 7 months agoHi there,
The water meter installation program is underway. Crews have started installations in West Sechelt and are making their way up the west side of Porpoise Bay, through to Downtown Sechelt, up the east side of Porpoise Bay and ending in the Davis Bay / Wilson Creek area. The project is anticipated to be completed by 2026 so depending on where you live, it could be soon or could be into next year when the installation takes place.

I want to make monthly payments for my water bill. Can I do that?
Barb asked 10 months agoYes, you can make periodic installments on your utility account throughout the year. The frequency of the payments is up to you. To have the amount automatically come out of your bank account you must set up the payment online through your financial institution. The SCRD does not have the ability to set up pre-authorized payments for you. You will need to add the Sunshine Coast Regional District as a payee and include your 6 digit account number

Ginger H asked over 1 year agoIn wastewater and water service areas, user fees fund everyday operations and maintenance, with remaining funds placed into an operating reserve fund for unexpected expenses and future operations.
Frontage fees/parcel taxes contribute to capital expenses for large projects and major repairs, with remaining funds placed into a capital reserve fund for unexpected expenses and future capital projects.
Every property within a service area pays a frontage fee, and if the property is using the service, it pays a user fee. Different properties have access to different services (for example, only some properties are located in a wastewater service area and access a community sewer).

Deb G asked over 1 year agoHi, thank you for the question and apologies for the delay. The contract has been awarded, and the contractor will begin installing meters in the District of Sechelt in Fall 2023. More information on the installation schedule will be shared with residents as it becomes available.
The SCRD is currently completing a water rate structure review for all SCRD water users. User rates are set on cost recovery and include expenses for operations and maintenance, water treatment, staffing, projects such as infrastructure upgrades and feasibility studies. Staff will present different rate structures to the Board later this year (2023) and will seek direction for next steps.

Hanna asked about 2 years agoHi there,
Yes, this is the rate increase from last year.
2021 rate of $1.39 + 12.5% increase of 0.17 = 2022 rate of $1.56.
