A report is being brought forward to the SCRD Board on March 28 and will include recommendations on service improvements for the handyDART service. the agenda will be available at www.scrd.ca/agendas prior to the meeting taking place.

Project Background

handyDART, is an accessible, door-to-door shared transit service for people with permanent or temporary disabilities that prevent them from using fixed-route transit without assistance from another person.

handyDART picks registered clients up at their accessible door and drops them off at the accessible door of their destination. This is a BC Transit service that is operated by the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) on the Sunshine Coast.

BC Transit and the SCRD are currently reviewing the handyDART service in order to make recommendations for current service improvements as well as future service expansion priorities.

Your participation will directly contribute to a forthcoming handyDART Services Report, which will outline potential improvements and enhancements to benefit handyDART riders and caregivers in the region. Your input is the key to unlocking a more accessible, efficient, and reliable transit future for the Sunshine Coast.

Three activities are underway as part of this review.

1. Focus groups - The SCRD and BC Transit hosted focus groups in late November.

2. handyDART user survey - BC Transit reached out directly to handyDART users to get their feedback on the service. There was also a survey for handyDART users available from drivers on handyDART buses.

3. handyDART general survey - This survey looked for responses from those in the community who are non-handyDART users.
