Consultation has concluded

The SCRD is requesting expressions of interest from parties for options to oversee the operation of Coopers Green Hall in Halfmoon Bay.

The SCRD has owned and operated the Hall since 1985 and until recently was planning to build a new hall at Cooper Green Park. In March of 2023 a decision was made by the SCRD Board of Directors to build a new hall at Connor Park instead of Cooper Green Park.

Currently the SCRD wishes to explore leasing the Hall to a qualified interested party for purposes aligned with its permitted zoned usage for a period of five years, subject to possible extension.

Welcome to our Coopers Green Hall Replacement Project Community Check-In. This is your space to learn more about the background to this project.

The community check in survey has now closed. The results from the survey are available by clicking here.

Background

The SCRD has been working on a replacement project for the Coopers Green Hall for several years. The hall’s replacement was a key recommendation of the Coopers Green Park management plan which was released in 2014.

Until earlier this year, the proposed site of the new hall was at the location of the current hall in Coopers Green Park. This Summer, the SCRD received expert reports which outline serious concerns due to the potential for sea level rise and associated issues with building in this proposed location. You can read more about this in a news release that was issued in July of this year and in this report from October.

As a result, the project was halted until alternate sites for the new hall were identified.
