What organizations were involved in this project?

Sunshine Coast Regional District, District of Sechelt, Town of Gibsons and Islands Trust worked together to deliver this project

How does the public benefit from this project?

Better understanding current and future flood hazards will help our communities to consider climate adaptation pathways to address them.  Flood mapping also helps inform the region's land use planning changes to support community resilience.

What is the current project focus?

All information has been gathered, and the report is completed.  A separate web-page is being setup to house the findings and reports.  Presentations to local municipalities are being planned and requests to present to neighbourhood associations can be made by reaching out to either of the two project contacts.

What stage of Community Engagement is the project in?

Community and stakeholder engagement and awareness building is a critical component of climate adaptation and coastal flood mapping.  Project outreach was conducted via the King Tides photo contest in Dec 2024 and Jan 2025.  We also hosted information booths in May and June 2025 to better understand community concerns and help build awareness and understanding of coastal flood hazards.  Getting public accounts of past flood events increases awareness of coastal flood hazards and climate adaptation pathways to address them.  Neighbourhood Associations presentation requests can be made to either of the project contacts

How can I stay connected and get involved?

You can follow this page to hear about project updates directly.  Project reports with key recommendations and technical details will be published on a 'Flooding Maps' page shortly.  Additional flood preparedness resources and FAQs can be found in the Documents.
